Information for GPs

Working Health Services Borders has been jointly funded by the Scottish Government and NHS Borders. We are a small team made up of 3 NHS clinicians, an administrator and project lead. We offer a free, confidential, rapid access, self-referral service. We have clinics available throughout the Borders.

Physiotherapy: BGH, Jedburgh, Innerleithen, Hawick, Coldstream Psychological Therapy: Galashiels, Peebles Occupational Therapy: Hawick, Peebles, workplace assessments

The aim is to provide Scottish Borders Small to Medium sized Enterprises, (that is companies employing less than 250 personel) a limited occupational health service. We have sessional input from an ocupational health nurse and physician. Funding has been secured for 12 months, the service launched April 2009. Three quarters of all work-related sickness absence in the UK is attributable to mild mental health and Musculo-skeletal Disorders and there is good evidence that rapid access to treatment services provides a better outcome and reduces the likelihood of chronicity. For more information about the health of the working age population: www.workingforhealth.gov.uk/documents/working-for-a-healthier-tomorrow-tagged.pdf At this time we have not been able to secure funding for a second year but it is hoped that on-going evaluation of the present project will strengthen the case for continued financial support beyond 12 months. Clients are encouraged to self-refer using 01896 825983 or to email us. If however, you would like to refer a client either phone or use the pdf referral form below. As a minimum we need to know the clients name and a contact number for them. We will then contact the client to arrange an appointment for them. GP referral pdf

Research shows that promoting health at work leads to a range of benefits for employers including increased levels of employee satisfaction, productivity and competitiveness.
