Is our SHAW Award still valid?

Like the new HWL Awards, SHAW Awards were awarded on the basis of being valid for three years. If your SHAW Award expires before you convert to HWL, it cannot be counted towards a HWL Award, and cannot be renewed.

Our SHAW Award is due for reassessment but we haven't converted to HWL yet – are we too late?

No. You can still transfer to an HWL Award, but you will need to fulfil the new Award criteria.

How can we transfer from a SHAW Award to a HWL Award?

The HWL Award Programme incorporates some of the health promotion criteria that were in the SHAW Awards, in addition to others addressing the wider agenda of HWL. These include: expanded health promotion criteria, occupational health and safety, health and the environment, mental health and well-being, employability, and community involvement.

Organisations holding a current SHAW Award and wishing to transfer across to a HWL Award will be expected to produce evidence to satisfy all the Healthy Working Lives Award criteria. However, existing evidence for the SHAW-related criteria may be used.

Can we transfer to a HWL Award before our reassessment date?

Yes. Organisations can transfer to a HWL Award at any time as long as evidence is produced to satisfy all criteria.

If we transfer to a HWL Award, must we be reassessed?

Yes. All organisations seeking a HWL Award must undergo an assessment visit.

How long will our HWL Award be valid for?

As with SHAW Awards, a HWL Award is valid for three years.
