Trains

Edinburgh - Motherwell – Express trains available – duration 50 minutes;
Motherwell - Hamilton Central – 10 to the hour and 20 past the hour – duration 7 minutes;
Edinburgh - Glasgow Queen Street – Depart every 15 minutes – duration 50 minutes, walk to Glasgow Central Station for connection to Hamilton Central;
Glasgow Central - Hamilton Central – Depart 07, 27, 37 and 57 past the hour – duration 24 minutes;

Hamilton Central - Motherwell – Depart 03 and 33 past the hour;
Motherwell - Edinburgh – One hourly 0.14;
Hamilton Central - Glasgow Central – Depart 15, 27, 45 and 57 past the hour, walk to Glasgow Queen Street for connection to Edinburgh and North;
Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh – Every 15 minutes – duration 50 minutes;

Walking from the train

Coming out of the Train Station, you will enter and walk through the Bus Station.
Leave the Bus Station walking to the right onto Brandon Street, crossing both sets of traffic lights towards the pedestrian area.
Walk down the pedestrian area (Quarry Street).
At the bottom of Quarry Street take the second road on the left into Castle Street.
Walk down Castle Street and you will see the Princes Gate Building in front of you across the pedestrian area.

Walking from the bus

Leave the Hamilton Bus Station walking to the right onto Brandon Street, crossing both sets of traffic lights towards the pedestrian area.
Walk down the pedestrian area (Quarry Street).
At the bottom of Quarry Street take the second road on the left into Castle Street.
Walk down Castle Street and you will see the Princes Gate Building in front of you across the pedestrian area.

Walking from the taxi ranks

There are two taxi ranks in Hamilton.
The first is situated within the Bus Station/Train Station.
The second is outside Hamilton Palace.
Walk towards the Hamilton Town Centre pedestrian area.
Take the first right into Castle Street.
Walk down Castle Street and you will see the Princes Gate Building in front of you across the pedestrian area.

Driving from Glasgow

Follow M8 travelling east-bound, then take the slip road for Coatbridge/Carlisle M73(M74).
On the slip road stay in the right hand lane for M73(M74).
Follow the signs for and join the M74 (South).
Leave M74 at Junction 6 signposted Hamilton/Motherwell.
On the slip road take right hand lane for Hamilton.
At the first roundabout (with traffic lights) take the third exit.
A variety of parking options are available in the vicinity.

Driving from Edinburgh

Follow M8.
At Junction 6 (end of M8) continue onto the A8.
Leave the A8 onto A725 signposted Bellshill/East Kilbride/Carlisle, stay on slip road to A725. Follow A725 to the Raith interchange at M74.
Go onto the M74, south-bound for one junction, coming off at Junction 6 signposted Hamilton/Motherwell.
On the slip road take right hand lane for Hamilton.
At the first roundabout (with traffic lights) take the third exit.
A variety of parking options are available in the vicinity.

Driving from Stirling

Follow the M9 (signposted Glasgow/Edinburgh) and continue onto M80 and A80 (signposted Glasgow/Carlisle).
Branch left onto M73 signposted The South M73, Glasgow/Carlisle.
Follow signs for and join the M74 (South).
Leave M74 at Junction 6 signposted Hamilton/Motherwell.
On the slip road take the right hand lane for Hamilton.
At the first roundabout (with traffic lights) take the third exit.
A variety of parking options are available in the vicinity.

Parking

Free parking:

You can park for free on the roads. Be sure to check local restriction signs.

  • Up to 2hrs in the Asda car park
  • Up to 4hrs in the Cinema/Next car park
  • Up to 2hrs in the Kingsgate Retail Park opposite Asda
  • Museum area, in and around the Palace Grounds and Driving Range.

Long-stay parking:
On entering Kingsgate Retail Park, turn right following signs for long stay car park. £1 per day.

Pay & Display:
Duke Street multi-storey car park in the town centre opposite Marks and Spencer’s
Scarlow Street multi-storey off Scarlow Street.

Walking from car parks

Most parking is available around Asda, the long-stay car park and Kingsgate Retail Park.
From this area, walk towards Asda and head for the pedestrian area in the gap between Asda and the Cinema (to the left of Asda as you approach form the car parks).
Walk through the gap into an open pedestrian area with steps.
Walk up the steps towards Castle Street.
Princes Gate is the modern building on the right.
