Developing NHS greenspace:health, well-being and hospital grounds
The contribution that outdoor activity and contact with nature can make to a healthier Scotland is increasingly recognised by the medical profession, greenspace managers and policy makers. Hospital grounds can act as a green lung for healthcare facilities and provide patients, staff and visitors with accessible outdoor space that can be used for walking cycling, viewing nature or simply to spend time relaxing or convalescing in peaceful surroundings. This seminar will showcase joined up delivery between the environment and health sectors in Scotland. It will highlight projects that demonstrate how the planning and design of NHS greenspace can promote better health and wellbeing for staff, patients, visitors and the local community, and will examine approaches to making greater use of these natural spaces for physical activity and to support treatment and recovery.
